Here’s a short film by Temujin Doran which distils (with some omission and lack of detail – but still worth a watch) the key elements of four important models of liberal democracy. Not only is it of particular interest as we listen to the rhetoric exploring the implications of this summer’s violence in the streets of some British cities (the film was made in 2010), but also for this unit as it examines the emergence of utilitarianism into the political philosophy of liberalism. It’s the ethics behind that excursion that will be of interest to us.
If you like the film be sure to have a look at other work by Doran. He’s very talented.
